Star Nosed Mole
Its Amazing Adaptation:The Star-Nosed Mole is mainly known for its unique feature, its star-like nose! This mole’s adaptation covers up its disadvantage of almost being blind. Each of its 22 tentacles are covered by 25,000 sensory receptors (Eimer Organs) which help it to identify and kill its prey with a minimum time of 120 milliseconds, giving it the title of the
fastest-eating mammal. The Star-Nosed Mole’s adaptation has occurred because its poor-sighted eye could result in the species to extinction because it won’t be able to hunt its prey. Also because of its habitat. This mole lives in the dirt so it’d be very dirty. Its nose prevents dirt from entering its nose and mouth. Another reason for its adaptation is because it’s prey is too fast for it. Its nose tracks and identifies its prey. Without its nose, it would not be able to survive in its habitat. |
